New Jersey Says ‘Only One Gun Per Month’

New Jersey Says ‘Only One Gun Per Month’

A new anti-gun bill is being pushed by radical Democrats in New Jersey. The bill is called S1774, and its sponsors are Senator Sandra Baldwin Cunningham and Teresa Ruiz. The Bill’s purpose is to limit firearm sales by restricting New Jersey residents to only one gun purchase per month.

Senator Ruiz claims, “This legislation is about reducing gun violence and saving lives.” If you have followed New Jersey gun laws, you know that’s not necessarily true. The actual intent behind the bill could be two-fold. On the one hand, the anti-gun radicals could be trying to keep guns out of the hands of their political opposition and, on the other hand, starve gun shops of sales in the state of New Jersey while simultaneously pandering to their angry anti-gun base.

As if character references, fingerprints, unnecessary fees, and intrusive background checks with a long approval waiting period and a window to purchase a firearm that expires within 90 days were not enough, the New Jersey Senators have now made it clear that they believe they can dictate what you can buy and in what quantity you will be allowed to buy it.

In a desperate attempt at justifying their unconstitutional behavior, they have decided to use the same old tired “strawman purchase” as the motivation behind this bill, claiming that limiting the sale of firearms to law, abiding citizens will somehow limit the number of firearms in the hands of criminals.

The irony of it all is that anti-gunners in blue states could actually stop the violence if they were to keep violent criminals in jail. They choose not to do this because, should gun-related deaths stop, there would be no reason to push for more gun laws that affect the majority of the population. Don’t forget that gun laws are for everyone, and they know that.

The Coalition of New Jersey Firearm Owners (CNJFO), along with Gun Owners Of America, Gun Owners Foundation, and Christian Benton, have filed a complaint for ‘declaratory and injunctive relief.’ The case is called Benton v. Platkin, and it was filed in the United States District Court for The District of New Jersey. The case was brought on the grounds that S1774 is onerous, unconstitutional, and an ahistorical firearm-permitting regime. The plaintiffs in the case argue that there is no text or ‘historical tradition’ that in any way resembles this new bill which has become the standard when measuring restrictive gun laws since the Bruen decision. Bruen breathed new life into many of these cases, but blue States continue to ignore the Courts and defy the Bruen standards. New Jersey is just one of them.

States like New Jersey, New York, California, and others have been in complete defiance of the Bruen decision, and gun rights groups have decided that they are putting an end to that through the court system.

Senior Vice President for Gun Owners Of America Erich Pratt said, “We’re very optimistic that this case will eventually be the means by which we finally dismantle New Jersey’s unconstitutional permitting policies and liberate their citizens from their anti-gun tyranny.”

This may be a situation where over-ambitious radical gun-grabbers overplay their hand and end up unraveling the State’s entire permitting process.

Vice President and Treasurer of CNJFO Jack Pyle said, “For far too long, New Jersey Courts, Legislators and Governors have thumbed their noses at The Constitution while passing, and upholding, layer upon layer of unconstitutional gun laws. With this case, Benton v. Platkin, we begin the process of peeling away those layers and returning to the law-abiding residents of New Jersey their unfettered right to keep and bear arms…not subject to excessive fees, excessive delays, rationing, and multiple permission slips as New Jersey thinks it should be, but how it was meant to be.”
