Mark Kelly Owes Complete Disclosure on Chicom Money Influence

Kelly’s communist Chinese business associates don’t much like the idea of armed Americans, either. (Captain Mark Kelly/Facebook)

U.S.A. – -(Ammoland.com)- “The Chinese government invited then-astronaut Mark Kelly, now an Arizona Democratic Senate candidate, to an all-expenses-paid retreat at a countryside resort in 2003,” The Washington Free Beacon reported Monday. “He left China five days later not only with a future spouse, former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D., Ariz.), but also with lucrative regime business contacts.”

Kelly mingled at that conference with all kinds of Chinese mucky-mucks in foreign service, the economy, and propaganda. NASA, for its part, is playing coy and not addressing whether or not Kelly has exploited the contacts he made while bound by its ethics policies concerning personal enrichment resulting from agency duties.

Funny. I remember when I worked in defense contracting for a satellite navigation and communications company years back, and they got antsy on accepting logo coffee mugs from vendors.

Such “reluctance” on the part of the space agency is not wholly unexpected though, since decades of embedded “progressives” have introduced Democrat priorities to compete with the core mission. In addition to vehicle development and  exploration that had resulted in nation-inspiring and history-changing missions like Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo, tax resources must also be expended on things like politicized “global warming” alarmism of Thunbergian proportions — that and flying Star Trek’s George Takei out to lecture everyone about virtue-signaling “diversity.”

And we wonder why we don’t have Kubrick’s Space Station V and Clavius Base by now.

It’s a Democrat government thing. It’s like giving them money for the Wuhan flu so they can divert it to “free” college and “to each according to his needs” income redistribution. The curious thing is, Kelly’s “most favored” business associates pay equivocal lip service to achieving climate goals decades from now (when, ostensibly, New York City will be under seven feet of water). And forget it on tolerance for Takei.

But back to Kelly and his economic benefactors, who don’t have to worry about domestic cultural revolution struggle sessions when it's them who are violating expectations. You’ll notice we still haven’t gotten much more than equivocation and weasel-wording “on the financial ‘windfall’ his company gained from the Chinese tech giant, Tencent.”

With all the interest in foreign influence in U.S. elections, it’s not out of line to ask how a retired captain with Chinese connections finds himself with “assets worth up to $27 million.” Not that we can expect the propaganda-preferring DSM (Duranty/Streicher Media) to ask very loudly, it at all…

The relationship and the incentives are important to understand for all Americans and for Arizonans in particular, considering trade deals for weapons systems with Taiwan, including Raytheon missile systems made in Tucson and Boeing AH-64 Apache helicopters made in Mesa. If there is one thing that will anger his mainland trading partners more than Dalai Lama posters, it is closer U.S./Taiwan ties. How Kelly intends to balance his personal economic interests with his duties as a senator with the interests of Beijing is something no one seems to be pressing him on – well, almost no one.

There’s one other important point Kelly needs to be pressed on, another area of carrying out policies favored by the Chinese communist government:

China condemns U.S. gun ownership as a human rights violation.

It’s a monopoly of violence thing.

Between Kelly’s citizen disarmament agenda with Gabby, his own campaign goals, and his support of the Biden/Democrat agenda, he’s doing his utmost to please his communist Chinese associates and place their interests above those of freedom-loving American gun owners.

Gun Owners of America Challenges ATF Reversal of NICS Exemption in Michigan

Lawsuit
GOA Challenges ATF Reversal of NICS Exemption in Michigan

Springfield, VA – -(AmmoLand.com)- Gun Owners of America (GOA) is suing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) for reversing itself in a way that diminishes the gun rights of Michiganders. As a result of a letter issued on March 3rd, 2020, the Bureau no longer recognizes that holders of Michigan concealed carry permits are exempt from a National Instant Check System (NICS) background check when purchasing a firearm.

The ATF released a “Public Safety Advisory” which instructs federal firearm license holders (FFL) in Michigan to no longer accept carry permits as an alternative to a NICS check. This reversal goes against federal law which allows this exemption for permit holders.

GOA’s suit maintains that the ATF’s reversal is a solution in search of a problem. According to an FOIA request that GOA sought against the ATF, the vast majority of transfers in the United States go to lawful possessors of firearms. The suit states:

Having sampled 5,249 transactions where state permits were used as NICS alternatives, ATF was able to come up with only … two persons in the entire United States who (allegedly) were wrongly issued permits and then later (allegedly) used those permits to unlawfully obtain a firearm. This hardly justifies the unauthorized action ATF has taken here, to the detriment of law-abiding gun owners across Michigan.

The suit can be read in full here.

GOA spokespeople are available for interviews. Gun Owners of America, and its sister organization Gun Owners Foundation, are nonprofits dedicated to protecting the right to keep and bear arms without compromise. For more information, visit GOA's Press Center.

Barrett Decisively Tilts an Unpacked SCOUTS Towards Freedom

U.S. Supreme Court Image NRA-ILA
U.S. Supreme Court Image NRA-ILA

United States – -(AmmoLand.com)- Assuming Second Amendment supporters work hard to ensure that the Supreme Court doesn’t get packed, the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett, if successful, could shift the court decisively in favor of upholding our Second Amendment rights. This is a huge opportunity, but you can bet that anti-Second Amendment extremists will pull out all the stops.

Barrett has long been compared to Antonin Scalia in her judicial outlook, something noted in the media. She also has a powerful dissent that indicates she is willing to apply Heller. This points to a sixth justice who would be, at least nominally in support of our Second Amendment rights.

Two years ago, the retirement of Anthony Kennedy led to one shift towards upholding the Second Amendment. However, the disappointing ruling in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association vs. New York City, arguably prompted by Sheldon Whitehouse threatening the Supreme Court, and the decision to not take up multiple cases shows that Roberts may have been intimidated, and could have voted up uphold anti-Second Amendment laws.

Barrett, by replacing Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, changes the dynamic in two ways. First, she becomes a fifth nearly-certain vote to strike down restrictive laws that violate our Second Amendment rights. This would mean legal precedent would, for the foreseeable future, block semi-auto and magazine bans among other things. The right case could even strike down licensing schemes like those in Illinois, New Jersey, and New York.

Second, Barrett’s presence could also force Chief Justice Roberts to join that five-vote majority for pragmatic reasons, if nothing else, based on how the Supreme Court works. Specifically, answering the question, “Who writes the opinion?” When the Chief Justice is among the majority, he decides who authors the opinion of the court, with other justices free to add concurring opinions.

When the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court isn’t among the majority, the most senior associate justice of those in the majority picks the author of the court’s main opinion. As of this writing, that means that Clarence Thomas, who has routinely excoriated the Supreme Court’s consistent refusal to follow up on the landmark Heller and McDonald cases, would pick the author of the court’s main ruling – and there is no rule saying he can’t pick himself.

Based on the dissents Thomas has authored, Second Amendment supporters would be understandably eager to see what sort of opinion he would author – one that would, in all probability, be quite sweeping. Roberts may seek to instead try to pick an author (perhaps himself) to try to stick to a narrower ruling, and sideline Thomas or other justices to a concurring opinion.

That being, said, all of this may not matter if the Supreme Court is packed. National Review notes that Biden and Democratic Senators are refusing to say if they will pursue a court-packing scheme if they are in power after the 2020 election. Their silence should be taken as an admission that they will, but they lack the honesty to tell the American people not only that they would do so, but who would be among the new members of this packed court. Second Amendment supporters should support the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action and Political Victory Fund to not only secure Judge Barrett’s confirmation, but to establish firewalls in the House, Senate, and White House against packing the court.

Biden Declares He is the Democratic Party. This is Their Gun Ban Plan

By Larry Keane

Gun Control iStock-496689884
“Democrats will ban the manufacture and sale of assault weapons and high capacity magazines,” IMG: iStock-496689884

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- Former Vice President Joe Biden is the captain now.

“The party is me,” Biden said during the presidential debate. “Right now, I am the Democratic Party. I am the Democratic Party right now.”

The debate didn’t touch on gun control. Amidst the arguing and speaking over one another, the candidates touched on Supreme Court nominees, law enforcement, riots, and looting. The topic of gun rights or gun control wasn’t addressed. The former vice president, though, told the American public exactly where he is on gun control when he uttered that phrase. He wants more of it. Lots more.

The Democratic Party adopted the Biden-Harris platform at their convention earlier this year that laid out their plans to enact unprecedented gun control. It’s a ban plan, an elimination plan, and a watchlist plan that will strip law-abiding Americans of their God-given rights and do nothing to address crime reduction.

Ban Plan

“Democrats will ban the manufacture and sale of assault weapons and high capacity magazines,” their plan reads. The party maligns the modern sporting rifle by attempting to equate it with an automatic firearm used by the military. What they want to ban are semiautomatic firearms simply over cosmetic features and make technology that is more than 100 years old illegal. They would ban the manufacture and sale the most popular-selling centerfire rifle on the market today.

Elimination Plan

The Biden-Harris plan would eliminate “online sales of guns and ammunition” denying Americans the ability to shop online and purchase firearms, which can only be transferred by the retailer to the customer in a face-to-face transaction after a mandatory FBI background check. That background check, too, would be required for every transfer of a firearm. Biden’s plan would criminalize private firearm transfers, whether that be a sale, a father handing a shotgun down to his child, sisters lending their handgun to one another, or lifelong friends swapping guns as collectibles. That right would be eliminated, and worse, criminalized.

Watchlist Plan

That’s not all Biden wants. His plan to enact universal background checks would create registries that would put innocent Americans on government watchlists. That’s regulation that is barred by federal law, but they’ve got a plan for that. He would force states to create a licensing scheme for firearm ownership and Americans would be forced to pay a fee to exercise a right. Illinois gives insight to the calamity that awaits. Illinois has among the strictest gun control laws, but the Firearms Owner Identification (FOID) Card system is a train wreck. The state has a backlog of more than three months and more than 135,000 applications to process a card to allow citizens to exercise their rights.

Biden proposes to go further and mandate how a firearm is stored in the home. Biden disregards the U.S. Supreme Court struck such a requirement in the landmark 2008 Heller decision. The opinion written by the late Justice Antonin Scalia did more than affirm the Second Amendment is an individual right. That decision also struck down the District of Columbia’s law that a firearm must be kept in the home with a trigger lock as unconstitutional.

This is the ship that Biden is piloting. The ship has no rudder. U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said the party would drift further left if Biden is elected. Biden is putting his party on a collision course with the Constitution, the Supreme Court, and voters. Biden is the captain now.

US Rep Crenshaw Builds Texas Bench to Buffer Against Bloomberg’s Bid for Gun Control

By Larry Keane

In a new joint campaign ad, the former Navy SEAL “recruits” a few fellow veterans. IMG NSSF

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- Billionaire and failed Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg thought it would be easy to drop millions into Texas to buy more congressional seats for gun control. He underestimated Texans’ love for their Second Amendment and U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) is leading the charge to block his gun-grabbing efforts. He’s bringing a few friends to the fight too.

In a new joint campaign ad, the former Navy SEAL “recruits” a few fellow veterans looking to oust incumbent Democrats on Nov. 3. Bloomberg spent millions to flip the Virginia state legislature in 2019 to pass more gun control and believing he can tip the scales in other states he’s already pledged more than one hundred million this election cycle for more, including Texas.

Rep. Crenshaw has other plans and his recruits have serious Second Amendment bona fides.

Leading the Pack

Rep. Crenshaw served as a Navy SEAL for 10 years, including five tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He put his life on the line to protect the Constitution, even being injured by an improvised explosive device (IED). After standing up for the Second Amendment and opposing an expanded background check bill in the House of Representatives, Rep. Crenshaw’s reasoning caught the ire of Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In a back-and-forth with AOC, he offered a lesson in Texas commonsense.

“Situations like this story are why we protect the Second Amendment,” Rep. Crenshaw noted on Twitter, “Side note: With universal background checks, I wouldn’t be able to let my friends borrow my handgun when they travel alone like this. We would make felons out of people just for defending themselves.”

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez tweeted back, “You are a member of Congress. Why are you ‘lending’ guns to people unsupervised who can’t pass a basic background check? The people you’re giving a gun to have likely abused their spouse or have a violent criminal record, & you may not know it. Why on earth would you do that?”

Crenshaw wasn’t standing for the character smear on gun owners.

“Just so I’m clear: you think my friends are domestic abusers/criminals?” he asked her on Twitter. “Seriously that’s your argument? That they can’t pass a background check? Wrong. People lend guns to friends, esp if they don’t own a gun, for self-defense and hunting purposes. This is America outside NYC.”

The staunch Second Amendment supporter is hoping a few Lone Star state congressional candidates can cross the finish line and help backstop against more gun control like those pushed by Bloomberg.

The Recruits

The new ad includes five congressional candidates with strong Second Amendment stances, including three more veterans.

Wesley Hunt is running in the 7th Congressional District in Houston. He graduated West Point and is a former Army helicopter pilot. His strong support for gun rights earned him the endorsement of President Donald Trump, who tweeted, “.@WesleyHuntTX is running for Congress in the Great State of Texas. He will help us accomplish our America First policies. Wesley is strong on Crime, the Border, our 2nd Amendment, Trade, Military, and Vets. Wesley has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

Next up is August Pfluger, a former Air Force F-22 Raptor pilot, and former National Security Council advisor. Pfluger is running in the 11th Congressional District near San Angelo and makes his support of the Second Amendment unquestionable, explaining on his campaign website, “I will defend the Second Amendment and support the right of all law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms for the protection of themselves and their families.”

Tony Gonzales, a former Navy Master Chief Petty Officer, joins the growing supergroup as the candidate from Texas’s 23rd Congressional District. This is currently held by retiring Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) and Gonzalez is trying to keep the seat in Second Amendment-friendly hands, promoting his credentials for supporting the rights of Americans to purchase and possess firearms.

So far in 2020, more than 13.8 million background checks have been run for firearm purchases and nearly 40 percent have been for women. Those are Americans that former Irving, Texas Mayor Beth Van Duyne who’s running in the 24th Congressional District can relate to. Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety is attacking Van Duyne if that’s an indication, and her Second Amendment stance secured the support of fellow Texan Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.

Rep. Crenshaw and his recruits come upon Genevieve Collins, a candidate in Texas’s 32nd Congressional District. Collins herself has a Second Amendment ad that is must-watch where she declares she will always stand up and fight for our Second Amendment rights.

Rep. Crenshaw and his recruits still have five weeks to go until the election. But as Bloomberg continues his spending spree ahead of November, and Joe Biden and U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) leading the most antigun presidential ticket in modern history, the Second Amendment is under attack. NSSF launched the #GUNOTE campaign to register, educate, and activate gun rights voters so they don’t risk their rights at the ballot box.

Mike Bloomberg’s History of Racism, Sexism, Misogyny, & Use of Homophobic Slurs

Hypocrisy Hypocrite
Mike Bloomberg's History of Racism, Sexism, Misogyny, & Use of Homophobic Slurs

U.S.A. -(Ammoland.com)- Michael Bloomberg and his cronies like to attack gun owners as if we were some type of monsters. Like most on the left, Bloomberg loves to lay stake of the moral high ground but laying stake to the moral high ground doesn’t erase one’s past, especially when your history is full of racism and sexism that spans decades.

Bloomberg’s history of sexism is widely known throughout his companies. In fact, he and his friends are even known to joke about blatant attacks on women. In 1990, when he was turning 48, a top aid presented him with a book at a company party called “The Wit and Wisdom of Michael Bloomberg.”

The aid filled the pages of the book with quotes from Bloomberg himself that he used at work. These quotes were so egregious that if an average person had voiced them, they would have been immediately fired and probably sued for sexual harassment. Bloomberg tried to use his billions of dollars to bury the truth. What else is to be expected of a man that believes his life is more valuable than yours?

“Do you want to fuck? He gets turned down a lot — but he gets fucked a lot, too,” One of the quotes read.

Bloomberg said another quote that his salespeople “will do everything, including give you a blow job. I guess that puts a lot of you girls out of business.”

Bloomberg also lays out his opinion of women in the book with quotes like, “If women wanted to be appreciated for their brains, they’d go to the library instead of to Bloomingdale’s.”

This book isn’t just a few pages. It is 32 pages of sexism and other derogatory terms, including pictures. Bloomberg goes as far as to describe competition as “fags.” Reading through the pages of the book, you can see why women have sued his company for being a hostile work environment and why he refused to release any women who did sue him out of their non-disclosure agreements.

When one of Bloomberg’s employees informed the disgraced former mayor that she was pregnant, he allegedly told her to “kill it.” He reportedly was demanding that his subordinate get an abortion to keep her job. The complaint makes Bloomberg sound like more of a cold, callous serial killer than someone who wants to get rid of guns for the children’s safety.

His hatred for women with children goes deep than just demanding his employees have abortions to keep their jobs. According to the former top saleswoman, Sekiko Sakai Garrison, Bloomberg would attack women employees for all sorts of issues with children.

“It’s a fucking baby! All it does is eat and shit! It doesn’t know the difference between you and anyone else! All you need is some black who doesn’t speak English to rescue it from a burning building,” Bloomberg told the employee, according to Garrison. Bloomberg’s comment left the unnamed employee in tears.

According to the complaint, when a male salesperson announced that he was getting married, Bloomberg allegedly told the female salespeople, “All of you girls line up to give him blowjobs as a wedding present.”

These comments were not the first time the billionaire suggested that the women who worked under him use their bodies for sex. While interviewing a woman, Bloomberg reportedly asked;

“If [the clients] told you to lay down and strip naked so they could fuck you, would you do that too?” The answer he was looking for was, “yes.”

One could easily write the things that Bloomberg said off as jokes, but Bloomberg listed one of the things he liked to do in New York was to chase women. He implied that he uses his billions of dollars to seduce women.

In a Guardian article, Bloomberg said, “I like theater, dining and chasing women. Let me put it this way: I am a single, straight billionaire in Manhattan. What do you think? It’s a wet dream.”

The lawsuits against Bloomberg and his company makes it clear that his views on women filtered down throughout the company. The suits claim that Bloomberg’s views on women and women in the workplace made his company a hostile work environment.

Bloomberg has attacked more than just women and the LGBT community. He also has a history of racist policies and theories beyond telling a woman to get “a black” to take care of her kids.

Bloomberg championed the policy of randomly stopping minorities and searching them even though they did not commit, nor did police suspect them of committing a crime. Bloomberg would call this policy “stop and frisk.”

The purpose of the policy was for police to search minorities for drugs and guns. It didn’t bother Bloomberg that he ordered police to violate New York City residents of their Fourth Amendment Rights.

The Fourth Amendment reads: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

The Constitution is very clear on unreasonable searches, and many believe that “stop and frisk” searches run afoul of the Constitution. The plaintiffs filed many lawsuits against New York City and Bloomberg himself, including a class-action case. Bloomberg’s policy is still in effect today, although its use has drastically decreased under Comrade Mayor de Blasio.

This policy isn’t the only evidence of Bloomberg being racist. There is a leaked taped of Bloomberg talking to a room full of white donors where he made several racist comments. This tape is where the infamous “throw them against the wall comment” about African Americans surfaced.

During the talk given to the Aspen Institute, he described criminals by saying, “You can just take the description, Xerox it, and pass it out to all of the cops. They are male, minorities, 15 to 25. That’s true in New York, it’s true in virtually every city in America.”

Bloomberg also states we need to keep black males from getting guns. Listening to the tape make me think that it was from a Klan rally. Bloomberg brings up a lot of the same ideas as the KKK.

Yet, this is the same guy that politicians nationwide have to bow down to because he controls their purse strings. He has dumped tons of money into my state of Virginia through front groups like Moms Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety. He is looking to repeat this trend across the country.

My questions to politicians that take Bloomberg’s tainted cash is the following:

Are you going to keep the money and side with a man who has a history of racism, sexism, misogyny, and use of homophobic slurs, or are you going to prove that you genuinely believe in equality and return the dirty money to stand on the right side of history?

SAF Applauds Nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to US Supreme Court

NRA-Amy-Coney-Barrett
The SAF strongly supports President Donald Trump’s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett. IMG NRA-ILA

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation strongly supports President Donald Trump’s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill the Supreme Court vacancy created by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“Judge Barrett is eminently qualified to take a seat on the highest court in the nation,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “Our research shows her to be an outstanding candidate and we hope the U.S. Senate can quickly vote to confirm her.”

In 2017, the American Bar Association’s Committee on the Federal Judiciary found Amy Coney Barrett to be “well qualified” for a judgeship with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. According to the Senate Republican Communications Center, former colleagues of Judge Barrett at the Notre Dame Law School consider her a “brilliant teacher and scholar” with an “absolute dedication to the rule of law.”

“When Donald Trump took office,” Gottlieb recalled, “one of his most important campaign pledges was to bring balance to the federal court system, nominating judges, and Supreme Court justices, with solid constitutional credentials. We’re delighted to say he’s certainly kept his promise, and in Judge Barrett, we think the president has offered a nominee with impeccable credentials. To say we are impressed would be an understatement.

“We especially admire her dissent last year in Kanter v. Barr,” he added. “Her argument that some non-violent felons should not forever lose their Second Amendment rights was totally in line with a ruling in our Third Circuit in Binderup v. Attorney General of the United States, which was successfully brought by the Second Amendment Foundation.”

Judge Barrett is President Trump’s third nominee to the high court, a remarkable opportunity for any president.

“We call on the Senate Judiciary Committee to give Judge Barrett a fair hearing,” Gottlieb said. “We are confident that when she is confirmed to fill the high court vacancy, Amy Coney Barrett will make this country proud.”

ICYMI: Biden Gun Control Would Choke Gun Sales

Biden NRA-ILA Third Time Not Charm
Biden shaking hands with constituents. IMG NRA-ILA

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- NEWTOWN, Conn. – NSSF, the trade association for the firearm industry, is shining a spotlight on former Vice President Joe Biden’s radical antigun campaign promise to end gun sales as America knows it. His far-left driven agenda would end Second Amendment rights to lawfully acquire, keep and bear firearms by individuals by dismantling the Constitutionally-protected commerce in arms.

“The single greatest threat to gun rights in America is Joe Biden. The single greatest safeguard against his agenda is an educated and engaged voter in the voting booth,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “Joe Biden blatantly called the firearm industry ‘the enemy’ from the debate stage. His agenda to restrict the lawful means for Americans to exercise their Second Amendment right is a grave danger to our God-given rights and our civil liberties. All Americans must understand the unconstitutional overreach he would enact to obliterate firearm businesses across America.”

The Biden-Harris gun control agenda would stamp out firearm retailers and deny their customers the ability to shop online and purchase firearms, which can only be transferred by the retailer to the customer in a face-to-face transaction after a mandatory FBI background check. A Biden-Harris administration would end the online sale of ammunition and all gun parts, eliminating the right Americans have enjoyed since the founding of our nation to make and assemble their own firearm. They claim to support “gun safety” but want to make it difficult for gun owners to repair their firearms. Lastly, Biden and running mate U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) would ration the exercise of the Second Amendment by restricting law-abiding Americans to purchasing just one firearm a month. This is a constraint of which has never been considered – and would never be tolerated – for any individual right contained in the Bill of Rights.

More than 5 million Americans purchased a firearm for the first time in 2020, based on an NSSF retailer survey. Fully 40 percent of these new gun owners are women. The largest increase of any demographic is among African-Americans, which skyrocketed 58 percent over 2019. To date, more than 13.8 million background checks have been completed for the sale of a firearm, surpassing 2019’s full-year total of nearly 13.2 million.

NSSF strongly opposes these unconstitutional proposals of the Biden-Harris campaign and encourages all Americans to vote on Election Day to protect their Second Amendment rights.

Canada’s Gun Confiscation Program: Past is Prologue

Canada Flag Gun Scales
Under the Trudeau government’s ban and confiscation program announced on May 1, over 1,500 firearms and devices listed in a government regulation immediately became a “prohibited” IMG NRA-ILA

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- For observers familiar with Canada’s long-gun registry, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s scheme to implement his “assault weapons” ban is already giving off a whiff of déjà vu.

Under the Trudeau government’s ban and confiscation program announced on May 1, over 1,500 firearms and devices listed in a government regulation immediately became a “prohibited” firearm or “prohibited device,” as did “any variants or modified versions.”

The law includes a two-year “amnesty” period ending April 30, 2022. A “regulatory impact analysis statement” released with the gun ban regulation states: “During the amnesty period, the Government intends to implement a buy-back program to compensate affected owners for the value of their firearms after they are delivered to a police officer; however until a buy-back program is offered, affected owners will not be eligible for compensation. An option to participate in a grandfathering regime would also be made available for affected owners. Further public communications on the buy-back program and the grandfathering regime will follow later.” In the meantime, use of the banned firearm or device is almost completely prohibited.

The problems began almost immediately. The law had a much broader reach than advertised, as it became known that the RCMP was adding, as “prohibited,” over a thousand firearms that weren’t directly mentioned in the May regulation. Gun rights groups also questioned the validity of standards in the regulation based on a firearm’s bore diameter or the muzzle energy in discharging a projectile.

It is now apparent that the government had no implementation plan in place at the time the May gun ban took effect, as it wasn’t until August that private contractors were reportedly contacted for expressions of interest in administering the so-called “buyback” (Notice of Proposed Procurement” on “Compensation Model and Program Design Options for a Potential Buyback Program for Recently Prohibited Firearms,” No. 202101502).

The Notice had an initial “Phase One” deadline of March 31, 2021 – almost a year into the amnesty period. Phase One covers the theoretical program design and the development of “compensation model options,” but “does not include initiating the delivery of the buy-back program.”

As of late September, no contractor has been announced and the details of the confiscation program and “grandfathering” option remain a complete blank.

news source quotes a spokesperson’s evasive hedging on the timing and whether the program will even be operational by the time the amnesty expires: “While it is the government’s intent to bring a buy-back program forward during the amnesty period, it is too early to devise with a degree of precision the exact timelines against which such a program would run.”

Another huge question mark is the economic fallout of the gun ban. One initial estimate of the “buyback” program cost topped out at a maximum of CDN$600 million. The “regulatory impact analysis statement” is less forthcoming, stating only that “the costs associated with implementing a buy-back program and grandfathering regime have not yet been finalized.” It adds that the ban will have additional unknown costs due to the economic impact on small businesses, manufacturers, sport shooting, and hunting (hunting alone “contributes an estimated $4.1 billion to Canada’s GDP as well as $2 billion in labor income, and supports about 33,313 full-time equivalent jobs”).

Canadians have already paid heavily for one failed Liberal experiment in gun control. The notorious national gun registry that took effect in 1998 was promised to cost taxpayers no more than CDN$2 million. In 2002, the federal Auditor General’s report predicted that by 2005, the costs to the Department of Justice alone would be 500 times that amount, over $1 billion. Besides the stupendous cost overruns, her report identified additional, serious concerns with the gun registry.

First and foremost, the federal Department of Justice did not “provide Parliament with sufficient information to allow it to effectively scrutinize” the program and ensure accountability, and provided insufficient information to explain “the dramatic increase” in the program costs.

Funding assumptions were “unrealistic,” and the financial information disclosed did not fairly represent the government’s program costs. The costs to comply incurred by provinces, territories, firearm owners, firearm clubs, manufacturers, sellers, importers, and exporters of firearms were not reported and not included.

Significantly, the program had become “excessively regulatory.” This “excessive focus on regulation and control” was explained by the fact that some “Program partners believed that the use of firearms is in itself a ‘questionable activity’ that required strong controls, and that there should be a zero-tolerance attitude towards non-compliance…”

In the end, the registry – with no discernible public benefit-cost Canada’s taxpayers at least $2.7 billion before it was discontinued by Stephen Harper’s Conservative government in 2012.

Asked about the registry in 2012, Justin Trudeau could do no less than call it a “failure.”

With a ballooning federal deficit and an economy struggling to cope with the COVID pandemic, anxious Canadians are right to be concerned about the Liberals’ track record and the lengths to which they will go to turn Canada into their version of a gun control utopia.

Barrett Confirmation Hearings Begin Oct. 12; Judge Has 2A Record

Hearings on President Donald Trump's nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court will begin Oct. 12 before the Senate Judiciary Committee. (Screen snip, YouTube, White House)

U.S.A.-(AmmoLand.com)- Four days of what promise to be contentious, perhaps even hostile, confirmation hearings on the nomination of federal Judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will begin Oct. 12, and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told USA Today the Senate Judiciary Committee could clear the way for a confirmation vote by Oct. 26.

That date is loaded with historical irony. It will be the 139th anniversary of the famed “Gunfight at the OK Corral” in Tombstone, Arizona Territory. This year, the showdown will be of a different variety, but no less significant in a lasting political sense.

Judge Barrett was nominated by President Donald Trump in a White House appearance Saturday. According to Fox News, the Republican National Committee has launched a $10 million campaign to promote Judge Barrett’s nomination and “hold Democrats accountable” for their “hypocrisy” on the nomination process.

On the other side, a group calling itself “Train Democrats” has unleashed an hysteria-laden email campaign to thwart the nomination.

“Why should Trump get to steal another Supreme Court Justice from Democrats,” the group complains. “It’s ridiculous!”

The group does not explain how Trump “stole” his first two nominations to the high court: Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.

One of President Trump’s most important campaign promises that he has endeavored to fulfill was to return balance to the federal court system by filling vacancies with constitutional-conservative judges and justices. In this way, he has suggested, he is protecting the Second Amendment.

In an interview with Fox News’ Pete Hegseth at the White House, the president suggested Barrett might be part of a high court ruling on Second Amendment issues.

“I feel I know what she’s doing on (the) Second Amendment, but I can’t really speak for her,” Trump said. “I’m picking a person. She’s going to have to rule the way she feels. The Second Amendment is under siege. If Joe Biden got in…I can’t imagine if that’s going to happen, but your Second Amendment’s going to be gone, and it’s going to be gone very quickly, I think.”

In a fact sheet produced by the Senate, two of Barrett positions dealing specifically with gun rights are highlighted:

  • “In Kanter v. Barr, 919 F.3d 437 (7th Cir. 2019), Judge Barrett demonstrated that she understands and appreciates the need to look to the Founders to understand the full scope of Second Amendment rights. She dissented from an opinion upholding federal and state bans on firearm ownership by a man who had pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud for falsely representing that certain therapeutic shoe inserts were Medicare-approved. While recognizing the undeniably compelling interest in protecting the public from gun violence, she concluded that a blanket ban on owning firearms by nonviolent felons is unconstitutional. Judge Barrett dug into the historical record and concluded that the Second Amendment, as understood by the average citizen at the time of the Founding, could not support such a ban; Founding-era legislatures stripped people of the right to bear arms when they judged it necessary for the public safety, not merely because they were felons.
  • “In United States v. Watson, 900 F.3d 892 (7th Cir. 2018), Judge Barrett held that mere possession of a gun does not give police the right to stop and investigate someone for potential wrongdoing. Police blocked and searched a man’s car based on an anonymous tip that a group of individuals possessed guns in a parking lot. But, she explained, under the Fourth Amendment, an officer cannot stop someone to investigate potential wrongdoing without reasonable suspicion that criminal activity may be afoot. Exercising one’s Second Amendment right to possess a firearm is not a crime. Thus, she explained, “citizens should be able to exercise the constitutional right to carry a gun without having the police stop them when they do so.”

In 2017, as noted by the Senate Republican Communications Center, the American Bar Association reported in a letter to Senators Chuck Grassley and Dianne Feinstein, “The ABA Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary has completed its evaluation of the professional qualifications of Amy Coney Barrett, whom the President has nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. As you know, the Standing Committee confines its evaluation to the qualities of integrity, professional competence, and judicial temperament. A Majority of the Standing Committee was of the opinion that Ms. Barrett is Well Qualified … The Majority Rating represents the Committee's official rating.”

The letter came from Nancy Scott Degan, Chair, American Bar Association Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, the memo said.

The Senate Republicans also recalled the Washington Post quoted anti-gun Democrat Sen. Charles Schumer back in 2001 insisting an ABA evaluation is “the gold standard by which judicial candidates are judged.” Almost five years later, in an appearance on “Meet the Press,” Schumer again said, “The Bar Association is the gold standard…”

According to a Sept. 26 memo from the White House Office of Public Liaison, “When voting in 2016 the American people actively chose to support President Trump and his vision for the judiciary.” The memorandum added, “According to the Pew Research Center, 65 percent of Americans said the Supreme Court was “very important” to their vote in 2016.”

In a June 26, 2018 report, a Washington Post poll revealed, “26 percent of all Trump voters pointed to the Supreme Court was the reason they chose President Trump.”

If the Judiciary Committee does vote to send Barrett’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation by Oct. 26, that would give the Senate a week before the Nov. 3 election to take a confirmation vote.

As the president observed in his Fox News interview, “elections have consequences.” This fall’s elections could have enormous consequences on a number of issues, including the right to keep and bear arms. While Democrats and their media cheerleaders are focused on abortion rights, the Second Amendment is being kept back in the shadows. Only Trump has been consistent in his rallies to mention the amendment, invariably to huge crowd approval, indicating its importance to his supporters.

For decades, Democrats have pressed all manner of gun control, slowly eroding the right, which, in the language of the Constitution, “shall not be infringed.” Their acknowledgement of how far they have pushed came with the federal lawsuit challenging New York City’s ordinance on handgun transport, which forbade licensed handgun owners in the city to take their sidearms out of the city under any circumstances. When the high court accept the challenge from the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, officials in the Big Apple scrambled to change the law.

It amounted to an admission the city knew all along their restriction was unconstitutional, critics have suggested, so they didn’t want to give the Court an opportunity to strike it down, thus potentially opening the gate to further gun law challenges.

Anti-gun Democrat governments at the local and state levels have ratcheted down on gun rights for generations. Now, with a Barrett confirmation looming that will change the balance of the Court for the foreseeable future, those laws could face an onslaught of challenges from groups such as the Second Amendment Foundation, National Rifle Association, Firearms Policy Coalition and others.

As SAF’s Alan Gottlieb has observed, these efforts are designed to win back firearms freedoms “one lawsuit at a time,” and “Make the Second Amendment great again.”
