Record Gun Sales Not Necessarily a Mandate for Political Change

But how will they vote? (NSSF—The Firearm Industry Trade Association/Facebook)

“NICS (National Instant Background Check System) checks top 680,000 for ‘Black Friday’ week,” the National Shooting Sports Foundation reports. “FBI NICS completed 214,913 background checks on ‘Black Friday’ alone. That is the highest figure recorded for a ‘Black Friday.’”

The report follows on the heels of an NBC News national poll showing “More than half of American voters — 52% — say they or someone in their household owns a gun.”

Further broken down, we see “66% of Republican voters surveyed say that they or someone in their household owns a gun, while just 45% of independents and 41% of Democrats say the same, and “a 17-point increase among” black voters. Further, “Almost half — 48% — say they’re more concerned that the government will not do enough to regulate access to firearms, versus 47% who believe the government will go too far in restricting gun rights [emphasis in original].”

So, “we’re” winning? If you listen to some “gun pundits,” this shows the tide is turning and gives gun owners cause to celebrate. The enthusiasm would be more credible if there were some believable numbers showing new gun ownership will translate into votes against Democrats, the party of citizen disarmament, in enough numbers to eject the gun-grabbers from power and replace them with Second Amendment stalwarts.

As AmmoLand readers saw in last year’s “‘Diversity’ No Guarantee for Enhancing Second Amendment Recognition,” that’s just not the case. There’s no evidence that there will be a mass turnover from the Democrats to the Republicans, and the existence of Fudd groups like Sportsmen for Biden and Giffords Gun Owners for Safety, shows doctrinaire leftists are fine with throwing Second Amendment advocates under the bus. Abortion and union interests, among other ideological and tribal priorities, come first.

Ditto for minority gun owners, and while it’s a positive sign seeing more and more Black citizens in some locales questioning why one-way loyalty to Democrats should be a given, the “skinfolk ain’t kinfolk” factions of urban hatemongers still ensure that whatever inroads are made, they still won’t be election. And while some from minority groups have shown themselves to be strong leaders and allies in the effort to promote the uninfringed right to keep and bear arms for all, overall, Blacks, Asians and Hispanics still vote Democrat in landslide percentages.

Ditto for the LGBT community. While some, like members of Pink Pistols, advocate for being armed to protect themselves from violent haters, the majority overwhelmingly vote for Democrats and embrace suicidal disarmament edicts.

One other group that’s started buying guns in unprecedented numbers is American Jews, suddenly awakened by the murderous Hamas attack on Israel and now baffled by the hate they’re getting from leftist Democrats they’d previously supported. It would be nice to think that this will result in an exodus from the party they historically vote for to the tune of 70%, but at 2.4% of the population, and with the number that live in overwhelmingly Democrat states, districts, and cities, it won’t make that big a dent even if they do switch over. And that’s no guarantee, as anecdotal evidence shows.

Case in point, from the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s “‘We don’t feel safe.’ As antisemitism threat rises, South Florida’s Jews arm themselves,” quoting Hallandale Beach city commissioner Michele Lazarow:

“I used to say I vote Democrat, woman, Jewish,” she said. “Now I vote woman, Jewish, maybe Democrat.”

What happened to voting Constitution?

With those priorities she has clearly learned nothing.  As she is a political leader and influencer in her community, expect such sentiment to prevail. Despite the clear and present danger, there are people who are immune to the lessons of Dachau survivor Theodore Haas.

The same can be said for the majority of all women, despite “More women buying guns to defend themselves.” The CNN headline qualifier “Liberal, female and minority” also reflects voting patterns in both major parties, with 63% of “liberal” women and 58% of young women saying a candidate not agreeing with them on guns is a “dealbreaker.” And “Specifically, there is a whopping 20-point gap between Republican men (41 percent) and women (61 percent) on the question of restricting the ability to purchase certain types of firearms.”

True, polls can manipulate and lie. But if anyone has more hopeful numbers on a voting sea change, it’s a well-kept secret, and we’ll have to wait for ’24 results to see. Assuming those results aren’t tainted…

More Americans from diverse groups buying guns creates an opportunity for Second Amendment defenders to reach out, but it’s no guarantee that those they approach will be receptive to their message, or that hearts and minds being approached are receptive to change. Those in “our ranks” going giddy over NICS numbers need to keep one fundamental truth in mind: It’s not about guns, it’s about freedom.

And as demonstrably flawed as many Republicans are, including outright enemies within, any gun owner who votes Democrat is no friend, because phony “pro-gun Democrats” who make noises to get the Fudd vote invariably end up stabbing gun owners in the back.
