There’s been an annual tradition that Florida gun rights activist Kevin Sona has been doing for a number of years now. While the festival has been through several different iterations and may have changed names, what hasn’t changed is the spirit of the 2A Freedom Fest.
The festival is a gathering of Second Amendment activists, advocates, and professionals. Sona has been hosting the event at Runaway Campers in Summerfield, Florida, since 2021. There will be speakers. There will be food. And there will be comradery.
Part of the weekend’s festivities includes a camping experience, also on Runaway Campers’ property, which requires a separate registration.

“Attendees can expect numerous vendors of all types, with lunch and drinks provided at no cost by Mike’s Other Place Deli And Dogs,” a press release stated. As part of their commitment to giving, the organizers explained, “We’re very excited to announce that we’ve partnered again with the Dunnellon Community Church to host a food and baby supply drive. Anyone that brings non-perishable food or baby supplies will receive one extra raffle ticket.”
“My goal for 2A Freedom Fest is for every gun owner in attendance to leave as a Second Amendment advocate,” organizer Sona said in a statement. “As you know the gun community can be very complacent but real 2A Advocates aren’t.”

We caught up with our colleague from Bearing Arms, Tom Knighton, to talk to him about attending and presenting at the event. “This will be my third trip for the Freedom Fest, and it’s an amazing time to network with others in the Second Amendment community,” Knighton said. “I’ve built great friendships at past events and I’ve made professional contacts. The fact that it’s also just a great time is more than a bonus, too.”
Recent Gundies Award recipient, Jared Yanis, the host of Guns & Gadgets spoke with us too. On Monday January 20, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Yanis was presented with a humanitarian award by the Gundies for his selfless charitable acts in the wake of flooding last year. Yanis’ awards and accolades have been growing. He’s a genuine and hardworking stalwart figure in the Second Amendment community.
Yanis discussed his involvement with the Freedom Fest:
I believe 2A Freedom Fest is an important event for so many reasons. American citizens need to remember exactly how powerful We The People truly are. The government only gets their perceived power by the consent of the governed. Every gun owner is a 2nd Amendment advocate, whether they realize it or not.
Unfortunately, gun owners are considered complacent and are thus ignored or unvalued by our politicians. That has been changing for the better over the last few years and now is not the time to let our foot off the gas.
With a republican majority in place for at least two years, now is the time to press forward with bills and policies that reclaim some of the lost ground in the 2nd Amendment arena. No other civil right is treated the way the 2nd Amendment is and we should not stand idly by and allow it to continue!
That all starts with empowering the average, everyday hardworking American citizen to be a key cog in the Republic. That is what events like the 2A Freedom Fest do, and that is why I am honored to be a part of this event.
