Virginia: Urgent Action Needed: Please Flood Budget Hearings on Thursday

Governor Northam wants to allocation millions to take away our guns and we need to ask legislators face-to-face if they are going to support that budget item. (Screen snip, YouTube, Washington Post)

Virginia – -(AmmoLand.com)- Sorry for the short notice. Governor Northam wants to allocation millions to take away our guns and we need to ask legislators face-to-face if they are going to support that budget item. There are four hearings tomorrow, January 2: NoVA, Blacksburg, Hampton Roads, and Richmond.

To get this out quickly, I am using an alert that GOA put together – VCDL thanks them:

Please Make Plans to Attend a Meeting and Show Your Support for 2A-Protected Rights!
The state's Democratic legislature will be holding hearings on Gov. “Blackface” Northam's anti-gun budget in four locations around the state tomorrow (on Thursday).

We understand that this is short notice. But it would have a significant impact if many of our members could show up and make a 3-minute statement and ask questions of the legislators in attendance

We have to speak out, because your rights are under attack by the Governor of Virginia. Consider:

Governor “Blackface” is supporting SB 16, which would ban commonly-owned firearms in more than one million Virginia households — a ban that would even outlaw sporting weapons such as the Mossberg 930 Snow Goose.

The Governor has requested $4 million and 18 law-enforcement positions to enforce his gun ban — a request that could be the preparatory steps for confiscating the guns which would be banned by SB 16.

Moreover, the Governor is requesting another $3.5 million to enforce gun control that has NOT been passed by the legislature and is NOT even current law in Virginia: universal background checks, one gun a month limitations, so-called “red flag” gun confiscation orders, and more.
We need to get as many pro-gun Virginians as possible to attend these meetings and demand to know if the Delegates and Senators plan to allocate money — as delineated in the budget — to confiscate common, household firearms from Virginia citizens.

You can have up to three minutes to speak to the Delegates and Senators who will be in attendance. And because they sit on the appropriations committee, you might want to consider the following types of questions for them to consider:

  • 1) The Governor is requesting $7.5 million to enforce a gun ban, Universal Background Checks, a one-gun a month limitation, “red flag” gun confiscation orders and more. Do you support this appropriation of money even though NONE of these provisions are currently the law in Virginia?
  • 2) Given that NONE of these gun control restrictions are currently the law in Virginia, would you support a budget amendment preventing the governor from using any funds to implement these anti-rights restrictions via executive order?
  • 3) Would you support a budget amendment that would prohibit any funds from being used to implement the provisions of any new Northam gun laws until a final judgment is received from the Supreme Court that they are constitutional?
  • 4) Would you support or oppose a budget amendment prohibiting the governor from using the National Guard or police to implement any confiscation or registration of firearms pursuant to legislation passed by the General Assembly?
  • 5) Would you support or oppose a budget amendment prohibiting a locality from using any funds made available to such locality to implement any confiscation or registration of firearms pursuant to legislation passed by the General Assembly?
  • 6) Would you support or oppose any budget amendment attempting to penalize Second Amendment localities by reducing funds otherwise available to those localities because of their Second Amendment Sanctuary status?
  • 7) Would you support legislation to immediately outlaw and confiscate guns, without compensation, when the gun can currently be legally owned in Virginia and all 49 other states? Moreover, if that provision was challenged and overturned, would it be okay with you if the costs of such a lawsuit were placed on those legislators who voted for it?

These are just a sampling of the types of questions that could be asked of legislators on Thursday.

You will notice that all the questions above have a money slant to them. Again, that’s important because these meetings are being run by the Delegates and Senators who sit on the appropriations committee.

The official announcement from the General Assembly states that the purpose of these four meetings is to “receive comments on the Governor's proposed 2020-22 biennial state budget.”

If you wish to speak, you may “register at each hearing site no earlier than one hour prior to the start of the hearing [and] speakers are asked to limit their comments to three minutes or less.”

Texas Church Shooting Hero, Jack Wilson, Shares his Side of the Story

U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- On 30 December, 2019, Jack Wilson, the congregant of the West Freeway Church of Christ, in White Settlement, Texas, who stopped the attack, gave a lengthy, on-camera interview of what happened from his point of view.

I first found the interview on the bigcountry.com website. A few hours later, it was posted on Youtube.com as from KETKnbc.  The video interview is 18 minutes and 44 seconds long, done at Jack's private range.

The video is professionally done. Peculiarly, I have not found who the interviewer is. She is an attractive, tall, well dressed black woman with an incredible voice.  I was unable to identify her in spite of my best efforts. Perhaps a knowledgeable reader will be able to aid in identification so proper attribution can be given.

The interview is in-depth. It covers Jack's training methods at his range, the church shooting, and the formation of the church volunteer security team.

Jack Wilson gives details about how he acclimates new shooters to gun handling. He shows the range layout and explains some of his policies on defensive tactics for the church security team.

The reader finds out, for example, the security team was formed about 18-19 months ago, when the church moved to its present location in White Settlement.

One of the reasons for the formation of the team was the high crime incidence in the immediate area.

Jack says there were five homicides committed in 2018 within five miles of the church location.

Details are given of the shooting. Jack tells us why he was suspicious of the individual who murdered Jacks two friends before Jack could stop him.

The attacker was wearing a fake beard and a fake wig, with a “toboggan” (knit cap?) on top.  He had on a long, 3/4 length coat. He was continually adjusting the fake beard.

The reason we have a good video of the attack and the armed congregants' response, is Jack Wilson talked to the Church Audio Video group and told them to keep a camera on the suspicious person before the attack started.

The attacker got up to talk to Tony Wallace twice, before the shooting. Tony Wallace was the deacon who was shot after Richard White was shot. The third time, after he talked to Wallace, the man in the long coat, with a prominent fake beard and wig, pulled out the shotgun and started shooting.

Both Jack and Richard White, the volunteer church security team member who was shot and killed, started to draw at the same time when the shotgun was pulled from under the attacker's jacket.

We learn that Jack took a little extra time because he could not get a clear shot. The headshot was the only clear shot presented.

When asked what he would tell people who say guns do not belong in churches, Jack says:

“You don't know when something bad is going to happen, or where it is going to happen.”

“You carry it anywhere and everywhere you legally can, because you don't know when you are going to have to use it.”

In the interview, Jack mentions there are 22 members of Jack's volunteer security team at his church. He is the organizer of the team. Team members regularly practice shooting, at least every couple of months, with many practicing more often.

I highly recommend watching this video interview to anyone who wishes to understand what happened at the West Freeway Church of Christ, on 29 December 2019, and the mindset of Jack Wilson, the longtime firearm instructor who stopped the killing.

Perhaps Jack Wilson will grant me an interview while I am in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Texas Church Incident Shows How 2A Stops Mass Shooters

Texas Church Incident Shows How 2A Stops Mass Shooters
Texas Church Incident Shows How 2A Stops Mass Shooters

Texas – -(AmmoLand.com)- There is only one reason why the tragic shooting at the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas, wasn’t even more tragic: At least one parishioner at the service that was attacked by a gunman not only had the courage to act, the parishioner had the tools to effectively protect the congregation.

In other words, the would-be mass shooter, who had a lengthy criminal record that disqualified him from even touching a gun under the provisions of 18 USC 922(g), was not the only person in that church with a gun. The death toll of innocents was kept down to two. Contrast that to some known gun-free zones. You can probably think of the places where the horrific incidents took place without much prompting, where the death toll was much higher.

Let’s face it: The anti-Second Amendment extremists will want this incident to fade from the collective memory of America, and many in the media will help them do precisely that. You have to admit, if you were in their position, you would want the West Freeway Church of Christ incident to be forgotten, too.

Why? Because it exposes their lack of concern for public safety, and instead reveals that they just want gun bans. When Vice President Biden attacked Texas Governor Greg Abbott for signing the legislation that removed churches from being gun-free zones back in September, he revealed how little concern he had for the ability of law-abiding Americans to protect themselves. He clearly either does not know or does not care that when seconds count in a situation like the one the West Freeway Church of Christ faced, cops are only minutes away.

This isn’t the only mass shooting prevented by someone exercising their Second Amendment rights. The FBI, in a series of reports covering mass shootings from 2000-2018, noted that armed citizens stopped those incident. One notable case was the Clackamas Town Center incident, where a concealed carry permit holder named Nick Meli stopped a mass shooter without firing a shot. You’ll note the media rarely talks about that, either.

But how do we replicate the legislative success that led to an untold number of lives being saved this past Sunday? Well, it’s stuff that has been said before, but it needs repeating: We need to persuade elected officials to pass that legislation. In addition, we need to persuade our fellow Americans to, if not support pro-Second Amendment elected officials, then to at the very least not consider support for the Second Amendment as a deal-breaker.

Doing that, though, requires a lot of work. It requires an honest assessment of the situation. Determine what can be achieved in that situation. You need to think about the appropriate strategy and tactics. Understand the opposition and be ready to counter their moves. Carefully consider the approach you will use, be mindful of how it comes across, and build relationships with local media to reduce the risk of a poor portrayal in reports. Note the recent guidelines the Virginia Citizens Defense League sent out for their upcoming Lobby Day.

This is simple common sense when we are trying to get anti-Second Amendment laws repealed. Unless, of course, you think that VCDL has gone “Fudd” or is “capitulating” to anti-Second Amendment extremists. The fact of the matter is that gains made by Second Amendment supporters in removing gun-free zones in the wake of this incident will likely be limited not by the conniving of anti-Second Amendment extremists but instead from poorly-thought out advocacy on Second Amendment issues.
